Welcome to the Molecular Biomarkers Lab

The Molecular Biomarkers Center strives to improve human health and contribute to the vision of personalized medicine by understanding protein differences involved in healthy versus ill individuals. It does this using novel proteomics and mass spectrometric technology and methods. The group is led by proteomics pioneer, Dr. Randall Nelson. He developed a top-down targeted high-throughput approach for characterizing proteins over two decades ago called mass spectrometric immunoassays (MSIA). These assays are developed to examine qualitative and quantitative variation among large populations. The assays enable delivery of personalized diagnosis and determination of treatment efficacy. Currently, the group is focused on exploring protein biomarkers for cancer, diabetes, and heart disease.
